Skin Tightening: History
Dr. Mark Taylor, a dermatologist at the Gateway Aesthetic Institute and Laser Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, conducted a new clinical study comparing skin tightening results of the GentleYAG versus a commonly used radiofrequency device, Thermage. The study found the GentleYAG to be more effective than Thermage. Additionally, GentleYAG treatments proved to be faster, less painful and more economical for the patient and practitioner. The results of Dr. Taylor's study were presented at the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) 25th Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida.
The Candela Corporation announced that its GentleYAG® laser now offers consumers "skin tightening" treatments adding to the laser's current applications; leg and facial vein removal. The GentleYAG "tightens" by heating the underlying layers in the skin and forming new collagen resulting in smoother, younger looking skin. The GentleYAG's patented epidermal cooling system, the Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD™), protects the skin with every laser pulse allowing for quick results.
"Candela's GentleYAG Skin Tightening laser is an exceptional new way to get rid of wrinkles and tighten skin", said Dr. Taylor. "The patients I have treated with the GentleYAG are overwhelmingly happy with the results." Taylor continued, "Because it is so quick and results in little redness, patients can receive a skin tightening treatment during their lunch break and their
co-workers wouldn't even notice.”
Skin Tightening: What to know
HOW DOES THE LASER SKIN TIGHTENING TREATMENT WORK?
Laser skin tightening is a non surgical process that uses a laser which creates a beam of high intensity light that penetrates deep into the skin tissue where it delivers a controlled amount of targeted therapeutic heat. This heating of the collagen under the skin’s surface causes the skin to contract and tighten to produce a more robust skin tone. Our machine is the Candela GentleYag and it has Candela’s Patented Dynamic Cooling Device technology which protects the upper layers of the skin with a cooling burst of cryogen each time the laser is activated.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE LASER SKIN TIGHTENING TREATMENT?
Your skin should be thoroughly cleaned and dried, removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or self tanning products before laser treatment. The intended treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for 2 weeks prior to treatment.
HOW MANY LASER SKIN TIGHTENING TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The number of the Collagen Stimulating treatments can vary depending on the severity of the condition being treated. The number of treatment usually recommended is 5. You may see results as early as after the first treatment.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS FROM THE LASER SKIN TIGHTENING PROCEDURE?
Normal side effects may include redness and swelling which will last for 24-48 hours. Rare side effects include pigmentation changes, blistering and bruising. These are very, very rare and generally only last a few days.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER THE LASER SKIN TIGHTENING TREATMENT?
You can expect some redness and possible swelling which will dissipate in a few hours to 48 hours. Your face may feel warm or feel like you have sunburn for a few hours.
